A while back I had a custom seat maker build me a custom hand tooled seat for a custom bike I was building. I chose the design for the seat, built and provided the seat pan, picked the colors for the tooling and chose the custom seat maker. I waited about three weeks to get the seat stitched up and tooled and when the big brown UPS truck rolled up with my package I could hardly wait to open the box and try the seat on the bike. When I opened the box and pulled the seat out from the Styrofoam peanuts I got kind of a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. The seat wasn’t at all what I expected. I didn’t care for it at all and I didn’t have anybody to blame but myself. The quality of the workmanship was top shelf to be sure but the design and colors just didn’t come off like I’d imagined and the more I looked at the seat the more I was sure that despite the $850 bucks I’d paid the guy to make the seat for me, I was sure not going to use the seat on the build. The seat sat up on a shelf out in the shop, for another month or so. I’d hoped that looking at it daily would let the seat grown on me, after all $850 is a lotta dough for a seat and rather than admit I’d made a big mistake, in fact an $850 mistake, I was content to just let it sit, pretending that I’d probably use it as soon as I “warmed up” to the seat.

A buddy of mine who is somewhat of a cowboy, in fact he makes saddles and chaps for other cowboys, stopped by my shop one day and saw my seat lying out on the shelf. “Whatcha doin with that” he asked. I’m not sure I replied, probably using it on the new bike. “Doesn’t look much like something you’d put on one of yer bikes” he stated flatly. Bingo, he’d hit the nail right on the head, the seat did not go with the bike….at all! “ I’ll help you make one up for the bike that looks more like it belong on the bike, if you’d like” he said. Who knows I replied, maybe I’ll take you up on that.

Well I did, and that’s how it all started. The seat we made came out pretty damn sweet; in fact it looked like it was made exactly for the bike I was building. Building the seat made me think about the $850 seat lying on the shelf in the shop and how painful it was to pay that much money and not be able to use it, even though it was clearly my fault. That’s when I came across the idea of building a half dozen or so different designs for a tractor type seat pan, that ‘ could vary a little bit and using different color leather dyes and tweaking the designs a bit I could come up with a ton of different designs and Ideas for hand tooled leather seats. Furthermore it was really paramount to keep the seats affordable so they didn’t end up on a shelf covered in dust like my first seat. We made up some custom seat pans out of really sturdy 1/8” steel plate, gave them a classic solo seat look and at 11 inches wide at the widest point and 12 ½ inches long they’d fit on any bike and support just about any type of ass.. We came up with the seven basic designs you see here, and the nice thing is you can mix em and match them up just about anyway you can imagine and pick your own colors and the whole shebang, seat pan, cover. The whole enchilada is only $495. It seemed like a pretty damn good deal and other people must have thought so too because now we’re busy all the time bustin out hand tooled leather seats for other riders.

Check out the designs and if you see one you like or if you have an idea for mixing them up a little to get just what you want, pick up the phone and give us a call…….602 391 8488.
